Slow Necklace from Fast Fashion

Formerly a well loved and worn through dark green cotton shirt in need of repair or repurposing, the necklace is scattered with solid brass disc beads. It can be worn as a two or three strand necklace depending on preference.

So much today is thrown away. Garment production contributes significantly to global waste both in the making of materials and the excess clothing that is discarded.

 

In making wearable cordage from what is so often considered garbage, I am honoring the people and the resources that it took to bring it into existence.

 

This necklace was made in Bolinas, California while I shared the process and my love of cordage with those passing by.
