My momma can still smile. Nineteen months after a glioblastoma diagnosis and brain surgery she still has a sparkle in her eye. Sometimes I wonder what I would do or who I would be if I could not use my hands - all to easily we define ourselves by what we do. My momma can no longer walk or move her body. She cannot speak or vocalize much at all. But she can still smile. She used to write, sing, run her own business, take care of children in the most creative and patient of ways, rearrange furniture and make things beautiful even if it was just in a hotel room for one night. She was a fierce and loving advocate for all of our family and stubbornly looked for the positive in every situation. With all that she has lost, what she still has shines brighter and more clearly than ever. My momma can still smile.

my momma always loves putting on her cordage necklaces - my biggest enthusiast!
